At Wonder, we are building an operating system for groups of people to connect, learn/co-create and enjoy each other's company. As such, we must develop a distinct understanding of human social interactions and how we can best facilitate them in the virtual world. In some aspects, we can rely on dominant design patterns from other tools or lend from the offline world for inspiration but for many, we rely on our own ingenuity to develop original solutions. We are pioneers in what we are doing.
As pioneers, we must run short feedback cycles with our users, take quick and bold decisions and develop learning mechanisms that help us generate, track and share knowledge. This is most effectively done in small and nimble teams unchained through far-reaching autonomy. Which, in turn, calls for smart process designs to streamline our energy. Smart processes don't suffocate but unleash creativity leading to clarity and, therefore, help us to maintain a solid focus on the product challenges and avoid distractions through misalignments.
Smart processes require clear ownership over roles and responsibilities. Each individual and team knows exactly where their mandate starts and where it ends (see Organisation). Teams understand what their common long-term north star is they are striving towards and what the short-term expectations are (see OKRs, Squads and Product Roadmap). True Ownership is guaranteed through channels for every team member to contribute and negotiate the strategic direction of the product (see Product Discovery Process).
Finally, we run a product development process that does not optimize for features but for learning. We understand the delivery process as a way to turn wild assumptions (Sparks) into concepts (Concepts) which are investigated and - if successful - developed into shippable features (Feature Briefs). After the release is the moment with maximum clarity. We are not scared to look into the mirror and take account of the user value (Feature Evaluations). To optimize our learning process and make it accessible to anyone, we document our assumptions, data points, and reasonings in each of the steps transparently.
